Madam Governor

I saw Keisha Lance Bottoms a couple weeks ago at a reception for her held at the Los Angeles home of a couple who are mutual friends of ours. It was two weeks before she would make history as the first black woman elected governor of a U.S. state and the first Democrat to win the office in Georgia in decades. On this night, Keisha, the former Mayor of Atlanta, wasn’t focused on what Election night would mean for her personally, she was focused on making life better, more affordable, for all Americans. I had asked her, at a previous event, how she was getting her message across in areas of Georgia that had never voted for a Democrat and she said knocking on doors and having face-to-face conversations about the commonality in what we all want - to be able to care for our families and ourselves. Congratulations Keisha on being a role model -not just for Black Americans and women- but, for ALL people.
