August 22 is Black Women's Equal Pay Day, showing how far into 2019 black women must work to earn what white men made in 2018. That's 9 extra months! Even worse, the gap has widened since last year. Black women disproportionately are heads of households, they make up the largest group of minority women-owned businesses, and they're a key voting bloc with one of the biggest voter turnouts — when you lift up black women, you lift up entire communities. They are phenomenal, and they deserve equal pay! @phenomenal tee benefits the Black Futures Lab. www.phenomenalwoman.us
Every year, my family and I go out of the country for my birthday which is on July 11th. This year we toured South Africa. It was extraordinary! This picture from my trip is one of my favorites. We visited Safari Primary School in Hlabisa. The children loved having us there - running to jump in pictures. The ratio of boys to girls in the school is very high so I had all the girls gather for a picture, including the teacher. Smile, ladies!
I was recently asked to join a private organization of female philanthropists- each pledging to give a million dollars to charity. Here is my journey to Women Moving Millions...
I recently attended the memorial service for my friend, director John Singleton. I had seen him several months ago at the birthday party for our mutual friend, Samuel L. Jackson. I had no idea that would be the last time. I am so saddened by his passing.
John was an extraordinary person - changing Hollywood by telling stories of African American culture that few had seen before. His memorial service was an uplifting one - full of family and friends whose lives he had impacted.
I will miss him greatly but, his legacy lives on. To honor him, we should all strive for excellence and inclusion and to be bold in our storytelling.
Philanthropy and Opportunity - especially for girls and young women of color. These are two words that mean a lot to me and define the mission of the S.H.A.U.N. Foundation for Girls.
A big THANK YOU to Passion to Paycheck for honoring me with the Industry Impact Recognition Award. Wonderful to be able to share my story with your audience.
This was the first time ever that I have been a part of a cast on a drama series. We held our “live tweet” party at The London Hotel West Hollywood. We all watched the premiere episode of ‘Games People Play’ and had our “tweetfest” during all the juicy parts - which were A LOT!
Today’s the day! ‘Games People Play’ premieres tonight on BET at 10pm! You’re going to love this show! It’s fun, sexy, hot...and I get to be part of this talented cast! Can’t wait for you to see! #KrisKensington
“Certitude: freedom from doubt, especially in matters of faith and opinion”. Throughout my life, there have been those who have told me that my dreams were too big - that I couldn’t accomplish something because I was just a “little, black girl from Detroit.” And, there were certainly times I wondered myself. But, God blessed me with parents and grandparents who taught me to break free of opinions of others and instilled in me a strong sense of faith that I could accomplish anything I put my mind to.What does BOSS mean to you? Join the movement! Make your own post on how you are a BOSS. Happy to be a part of this campaign by the American Cancer Society! Thank you to my friend Simone Smith who beat cancer like a BOSS!
We had such a great night at the fundraiser for the S.H.A.U.N. Foundation for Girls. Here are some of my friends who came to the Jimmy Choo store in Beverly Hills to shop. A portion of the proceeds that night went to our mission to empower girls and young women.
I only have the Jimmy Choo store in Beverly Hills to myself for just a few more minutes.
Expecting the ladies to come any moment now and shop the new Spring/Summer 2019 Collection of fabulous shoes - a portion of the proceeds going to the S.H.A.U.N. Foundation for Girls.
