Trailblazer

“Auntie Maxine” - as so many of us affectionately refer to Rep. Maxine Waters. She was one of the honorees at the LA Chapter of Spelman College’s Sisters Awards. I am humbled to share a stage with her. 💙

My Spelman College Honor

It was such a beautiful afternoon! Receiving the Sister Award from my alma mater, Spelman College was so amazing! The love in the room was so strong - a sea of women in blue, wearing our school colors. I’m so happy and honored and feel so blessed that I got to attend a school with such a tremendous sisterhood. 💙

Kicking off Black History Month with this beautiful couple. Mom and Dad, I love you so much. God blessed me with two amazing parents. Thank you for always supporting me through the peaks and valleys of my life. You are always in my corner and I cherish you. 💕

#NoBodyShame

Secrets revealed! Once again, I had the pleasure of hosting TLC’s reunion show for their hit series, ‘My Big Fat Fabulous Life’. Star Whitney Thore,  - to my right - got very emotional talking about the highs and (very low) lows she and her family and friends went through this season. There was heartbreak but, also healing. One of the most tearful segments of taping was when Whitney discussed the constant criticism she endures through social media from total strangers questioning her about why she doesn't lose weight. This has lead her to start the #nobodyshame campaign encouraging others to stop the bullying of overweight people. We applaud you for your efforts, Whitney!

Atlanta - Human Trafficking

It's a distinction that no city wants. Atlanta is ranked as the country's top spot for Human Trafficking according to the National Human Trafficking Hotline. Every day, girls and young women are being lured into this industry and the only way to prevent this is through education. I am proud to bring the S.H.A.U.N. Foundation for Girls, "The Empowered Girl: How NOT to be a Victim of Human Trafficking" event to Atlanta, on the campus of my alma mater, Spelman College. Join me and a panel of extraordinary women as we discuss ways to keep our girls and young women safe from this growing epidemic.

Then, let's dance...

I remember well those ballet and tap lessons that Mom enrolled me in when I was 6 years old. I sometimes lament that I could have danced alongside Misty Copeland (in my dreams) had I just continued a few more years past 8. But, alas, there is something so freeing about moving one's body to the music of your mind - that way, you are never out of step.
