New York State of Mind

I’ll admit it. As many times as I’ve been here, I’m always a nerdy tourist when I come to New York! 🤓 🍎 As much as I love Los Angeles, you really can’t beat walking through Times Square to people watch. 🚶🏾‍♀️👀 There are guys that will snap your picture and if you like it, (for a fee, of course) they will do an impromptu mini photo shoot. 📸 So fun! Which is your favorite pose? #LiveLoveLaugh

South LA College Prep

I was so honored to be Keynote speaker for the graduating class of South LA College Prep. I spoke about lessons that I learned throughout my life and career - including my belief : “Lift as you Climb”. We were put here on earth to make it a better place for those less fortunate. These young people are so dynamic and they are ready to take on the world! I’m so proud of my “Niece” Chrystyn who is Salutation of her class AND is going to be an incoming Freshman at my Alma Mater Spelman College which is also the Alma mater of her Godmother Dr. Nicole LaBeach! Way to go, Chrystyn!! 👩🏾‍🎓 👏🏾

The Problem with Philanthropy

One of the biggest problems with #Philanthrophy is the GATEKEEPING. Nonprofits are reluctant to share information with each other out of fear and competition. This scarcity mindset hurts the communities we are all trying to serve - especially women and people of color without access to elite donor networks. And that’s why I created, SHE Leads: Empowering Nonprofit Leaders for Girls - the conference specifically for women leaders of girl-centered nonprofits. This Sept. 29th & 30th in Los Angeles. Life’s Journeys with Friends

Life’s journeys are made a little easier with friends by your side. I just came from my hometown Detroit where I attended the Homegoing Ceremony of the mother of my dear friend Lauren Sanders and the mother-in-law of Barry Sanders. The service was absolutely beautiful and highlighted the essence of Lauren’s mom, Oneka Khadija Campbell who, among other things was a teacher and civil rights activist. 2nd  Pic: The Sanders boys - Nicholas, Noah, Nigel and BJ spoke so lovingly of their grandmother; 3rd pic: Sister-Friends: Dee-Dee, myself, Lauren, Alison and Angela; 4) Dee-Dee (who is also Lauren’s cousin and me; Pic 5) Mayowa who led us in prayer at the service. Love you, Lauren. 💞RIP Queen Oneka 🕊️

Friday Feeling

Sending you love and light. 💞✨ Many moments in these days can seem too heavy. You can’t run your best race carrying baggage. God will bless you with everything you need to get through this day. ✨

Pink Pump Affair

A beautiful Sea of Pink 💞 this Sunday afternoon at my friend Areva Martin’s 17th Annual Pink Pump Affair raising money for Special Needs Network which provides critical resources for families with children with autism. So many friends came out to support Areva who is also an Advisory Board member of the S.H.A.U.N. Foundation for Girls.💜 Thank you, Areva, for being such an incredible Agent of Change for so many!

Race to Erase

A wonderful night at my friend Nancy Davis’ Race to Erase MS charity event. Nancy is a powerhouse! Raising millions of dollars to develop treatments for MS. On the orange carpet, I wore one of Nancy’s Couture necklaces from her Peace & Love collection - the Double Halo Crown Necklace. So beautiful! Thank you, Nancy! 🧡

MET Gala

In honor of tonight’s MET Gala, I’m sharing this throwback of the time I covered Fashion’s biggest night! Looking forward to seeing who is going to slay the carpet tonight!

Easter Sunday

What a wonderful Easter service today at Faithful Central Bible Church! Pastor JP Foster delivered an incredible Resurrection Sunday sermon and welcomed special guest former VP Kamala Harris, former Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff and their beautiful family. 💞 I hope every one had a blessed day!

FORD Motor Company

True Motor City Love! 💙Thank you, Ford Motor Company, for inviting me back to my hometown Detroit for your special International Women’s Day Celebration! I loved speaking to your global audience about my career as a journalist, author, producer and, of course, Founder of my nonprofit - the S.H.A.U.N. Foundation for Girls. And, thank you, Ernest Adams, for conducting such a wonderful, thoughtful interview focused on the theme “Acceleration Action” and how diverse workforces make for more productive and profitable companies.
