SAG Awards

Posted on 1/24/2010

Awards season is in full swing! Last night I covered the Screen Actors Guild Awards - or SAGS - where actors honor other actors. I really like this awards show because everyone is pretty laid back because the celebs come to celebrate their friends so it's a fun atmosphere.
For my red carpet dress, I picked a beautiful Nickol Fechter gown in navy blue with jeweled embellishments above the waist.
Backstage, I posed with first-time SAG winner Drew Barrymore who was also in blue and radiant as she spoke about winning Best Actress in a TV movie or mini-series for her role as Little Edie in Grey Gardens.
Chatting with Meryl Streep on the red carpet was a thrill for me because I think she is one of our truly great talents. She's also very funny and knows how to command a room when she enters.
I also talked with actress Mo'Nique after she won her first SAG award for her dramatic role in Precious.
Getting brothers Alec and Billy Baldwin together on the red carpet was a hoot and the comedy continued when good friend Tina Fey joined us. And, did you ever watch The Golden Girls? It was one of my favorite shows so I was delighted when I got a chance to talk to Betty White backstage after she received a Lifetime Achievement Award from her fellow actors.
What a great and memorable evening! xo, Shaun

Getting Our Grub On!

Posted on 1/8/2010

One of the things I like about going back home to Detroit is that I know the family and I are going to get our grub on! When I landed a couple of days before Christmas, my mom and dad were there to greet me. The airline lost my luggage (it was back in LA, they said) so we had to run to Macy's to see if we could find some bargains on a sweater, socks, pj's and personals. Once, we did that, my parents, along with my brother Kwame, and my very good girlfriend, Angie all piled in the car and headed to Outback Steak House. I don't get to go when I'm in LA (not even sure if they have one) because oftentimes we are going to some shee-shee-poo-poo restaurant where I can't eat with my fingers. Not at home. Oh, no, bring on the baby back ribs and the big ol' baked potato.  Yum! xo, Shaun

Ladies in Red

My mother is my rock. She is the one I always turn to for advice when I am having a problem or when I just need some direction. She has always taught me to have faith in God - that He will always provide answers if I'm just still and listen to Him. No matter what the situation, Mom always finds the blessing. If her car breaks down, she'll say, "It's a blessing it didn't break down on the freeway." That is such an important lesson, I think. So often, we can get caught up in how things are going wrong but, there is always a blessing in every situation. It may be hard to see but, it would benefit us greatly to try to find that silver lining in the clouds. Sometimes it's just about saying, "Thank you, Lord, for blessing me and blessing this situation." And then give it over to Him. I feel blessed to have such a great mom and teacher. xo, Shaun

A Brand New Year

Posted on 1/1/2010

I spent this New Year's Eve in the place where I always like to kick off the New Year - in church. I attended Faithful Central's Praise Party with about 7-thousand other revelers.  Here I am in the sanctuary with my friends, Val, Patience, and Yvette. It was such a fun, uplifting night! Bishop Kenneth Ulmer (who was accompanied by his beautiful wife, Togetta) gave a resounding sermon on believing in the tremendous power of God to bring you through your trials, while Kelly Price and Donald Lawrence and the Tri City Singers brought the house down with their voices and had us all dancing in the aisles! It was so amazing!
I wish you nothing but peace, happiness and prosperity in 2010!
xo, Shaun
